Background: Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is an enveloped, non-segmented, single-stranded negative sense ((-)ssRNA) RNA virus that causes respiratory tract infections in cattle. It is an important virus in the bovine respiratory disease complex, affecting mostly young beef and dairy cattle. In stressful periods such as transportation or if co-infections are present (which is often the case in RSV infections), severe forms of pneumonia may develop. Treatment of co-infections with antibiotics, as well as disease control measurements are indicated.

PCR-platforms: ViroReal® Kit BRSV is developed and validated for the ABI PRISM® 7500 instrument (Life Technologies), LightCycler® 480 (Roche) and Mx3005P® QPCR System (Agilent), but is also suitable for other real-time PCR instruments.
